The Ka’iwakiloumoku Hawaiian Cultural Center required a fall protection system for the maintenance, repairs, and inspections of the standing seam metal roof. The architect specified single anchor points were to withstand 5,000 pound load in any direction without detachment or fracture and were to be with a low clearance for the aesthetics of the roof.

To fulfill the fall protection need, ESG designed an OSHA, HIOSH, and ANSI compliant, custom fabrication, low-profile single anchor point fall protection system. The standing seam metal roof anchor points were custom powder coated to match the roof color and fastened to the ribs of the SSMR roof using attachment clamps, requiring no penetration. The engineered fall protection system allows one user per anchor to safely repel to perform maintenance, repairs, or inspections on the roof.

The installation of the single anchor point fall protection system was supervised by Nathan Louws, ESG Lead Design Engineer, who in turn performed an anchor load test on the system and provided training to the end users on the use, maintenance, and warranty requirements for the custom system.
