The Guardian Fall Team Blog

At the King Street Bus Terminal in Seattle, Sound Transit required a horizontal lifeline to be placed along approximately 700 feet of canopy so that maintenance workers could safely clear drains and wash glass building exteriors. The horizontal lifeline systems were designed utilizing Guardian Fall Protection’s stainless steel Absorbinator.

ESG provided Sound Transit with a horizontal lifeline system composed of 100% 316 Stainless Steel components, swaged cable ends, and anchors with engraved product numbers.

Our design engineers ensured product and material compatibility by providing tin-plated copper oval sleeves for the 3/8” stainless steel cable lengths. This softer material allowed for the oval sleeves to be installed in the field while retaining the weather resistant properties that Sound Transit required for this system.

The system was reviewed by Nathan Louws, a Guardian ESG design representative, after installation was completed. The installation was performed by JEM Contractors accomplished with precise regards to the detail shown in the shop drawings (also provided by ESG).

ESG’s ability to meet specification requirements, flexibility to fabricate custom design solutions, and consistent communication with JEM installers, all contributed to implement this first-rate fall protection system.
