Lanyards FAQs

A LE application is one where the lifeline of the lifeline could potentially come into contact with the edge of the fall hazard, cutting or severly damaging it. OSHA defines a "Leading Edge" as a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level. However, the industry has also adopted the term "Leading Edge" for products, in reference to what's actually considered "Sharp Edges". This is derived from the ANSI standard referencing an edge with a radius of no more than .005". At an edge this sharp, and/or an application where the tie-off anchor is at foot level, non-LE lifelines are susceptible to being cut or severly damaged in the occurence of a fall - particularly one with potential for swing.
