The attachment method of these fall protection anchor points on any SSMR is difficult. Attaching anchor points to the roof structure below the SSMR would be ideal, as it provides sturdy connection. However, this attachment method would require roof penetration and, unfortunately, roof penetration through an SSMR can potentially void the manufacturer warranty depending on the exact application.

An alternative solution to this dilemma would be the installation of a non-penetrating fall protection anchor. This type of anchor point utilizes clamps that only dimple the vertical seam ribs with rounded setscrews. These setscrews are set such that damage is not caused to the roof and removal always remains a possibility.

It is important to note that even after installation of your non-penetrating fall protection anchor point, no SSMR is actually designed to handle fall protection anchor loadings. In order to verify that the fall protection anchor connection and the SSMR are capable of resisting design loads, an in situ load test is strongly recommended. This load test will allow for you to verify the adequacy of the structure and guarantee that the installed SSMR anchor can resist worst-case loads in the event of a fall event.

In conclusion, even when having to deal with a roof as difficult as an SSMR, the installation and/or attachment of a secure fall protection system is possible and should be implemented to ensure the safety of your rooftop workers.
